Leaving behind my Wix site for two years was not my intention. BUT life gets in the way. Our grandsons are growing and involved in activities. Sam and I both had COVID and then sinus infections. What a couple of years of stuff!
However, Gaile and I planned for those two years to take a road trip from her home in Kansas to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. Along the way we found more than one interesting stop where we took a break! So, it is time now for me to find a way to share on this blog our trip.
The beginning: Sam and I flew to Kansas City on May 10th and spent several days with Gaile: packing and repacking, buying things we probably didn't need but were afraid to take on our two week trip, and settling her dog, Honey, with good friends. FINALLY, we left Emporia on May 16th.
Stop #1: GOODLAND, Kansas - We stopped for the night on the Kansas/Colorado border in Goodland, the last Kansas exit on I 70. Some people find I 70 tiresome. I have driven it at least 3 times and am always amazed at what I find. On the way this time, I paid attention to the wind turbines, Old Fort Hays, Kansas, home of the 7th Calvary - Custer's calvary assignment and the Americans who encountered fierce Indian fights. Along the way we saw grain, grain, and more grain. I also read about the American forts and Indian conflicts in Kansas. At Goodland, I studies Hancock's War led by General Winfield S. Hancock and Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer.
